Useful video, but no mention at all as to what "SMO" is.

Chris Rock on 10/28/2008
Jon, it's short for SQL Server Management Objects. You can read more about them at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162169.aspx

great presentation skills.. however the title implied this was how to create indexes, not report on them. It's still good stuff - just mislabeled.

This is Excellent JumpStart tv Rocks!!!!

Carol Quaid on 10/28/2008
low volume control

Jeff on 10/28/2008
Actually, I think a video around 8 minutes is a proper one.

John O'Sullivan on 10/28/2008
good demo

Paul Kirkham on 10/28/2008
Very good method, would have liked an indication of what we do with the information e.g. some reference to another video or documentation on index fragmentation.

Terrance on 10/29/2008
Very good lesson.

Points off for mis-naming the segment: a much more accurate title would be "Creating a Report on SQL Server Indexes Using SMO" Points off for screen resolution: need much higher reso.

Chris Rock on 10/30/2008
I mislabeled the title. It has been fixed!

a sample of the code to download would be nice for those who do not program that much. Thx for your work.

sound level was very low unfortunately.

have not used smo. this is interesting. not sure how soon i would get to it either, but it was nice to see a good, solid, practical example.

kevin on 4/28/2011
pretty good, the company i work for we use the smo to determine the index frag in a similar way and then rebuild it if needed in batches, really could have used this when we were developing our own solution

Dana on 4/28/2011
Cool tool. In a follow on, can we get a 101 on what index fragmentation represents?

Gautam on 4/28/2011
This is linq, not really SQL. Index fragmentation info can be gotten through DMVs on SQL Server

Michael Neymit on 4/28/2011
Some good SMO learning!

Irfan Mohammed on 4/28/2011
Excellent. Thanks for Sharking.

charles Russell on 5/3/2011
wasnt too clear on the average fragmentation. Maybe some more explanation of what that is or how it is useful.

Maurice Ivory on 10/5/2011
