You missed a important point and that is that if you create a new user at the database level it does not automatically create the server level user acct and the user will be able to connect until the server level user acct. is created.

ok

Joshua Clausen on 4/15/2009
Good quick overview of users with SQL Server

Gerry Valdez on 4/15/2009
Bonus question was 50% of the overal score. That's not a bonus. :/

Did I miss it? I watched the video twice, and did not catch the part about a user who is in the database, but a login does not exist. I was hoping to learn a little more about that situation.

Okay, this is good stuff. It's the little stuff like this that gets us sometimes. We need a simple place to confirm or disprove misundertandings about the basics about SQL Server Security. Good job.

Robert Esteves on 4/16/2009
You may want to show how to create a user using T-SQL

Jon on 4/19/2009
Thanks for explaining this - I always felt like either method achieved the same result, but it is good to hear it explained by an expert!

I do not think the answer to the first question is covered in the video.

@Ashiah Check out PragmaticWorks (google them) they have good BI instruction. @Carla wilson check SQLServerCentral.com. Thanks for the great video, as always. Even the stuff that I find to be introductory level are great reference. Knowledge in any form is priceless.

Nice work Brian!

The author makes it seem that the two ways (both using the GUI) are the only ways to do it, but most DBAs that I know would rather use a script to create the user and add them to the necessary databases.

Video hard to see... The presenter needs to use a larger DPI for all presentation. This is not the only time the video was not viewable.

Ken Wenze on 9/9/2011
We Could use more on this subject - specifically how to copy users in a t-sql script and all of their permissions for a new user that needs the same permissions

WChaster on 9/9/2011
What about using SQL statements?

Excellent short video.

You left out how to do it in T-SQL. You also could have mentioned that you can generate the T-SQL command to add a user to the database from the GUI.

Tom Stafford on 9/12/2011
maybe tell why you would use each method to create a login

Maurice Ivory on 2/17/2012
This was very good, I will have to view the video again. There was a few things I missed.
