It could have been better if you had shown how to use the asymmetric key.

Jeff Lovett on 3/20/2009
A little more info. Contrast symmetric vs asymmetric, a little detail about possible uses for asymmetric key in SQL 2005, what to do if key becomes corrupt, or you lose the password, etc.. But keep up the great work - I enjoy your sessions.

I've just started looking into encryting some data, so this was very useful. Thanks.

Would of preferred more guidance as to their usage

david mercer on 3/21/2009
How do I use the key with the data?

Edward Thompson on 3/21/2009
I totally agree with Jeff Lovett. Great to know how simple it is to create the asymetric key; but, it would be very beneficial to know how to recover from a loss of the password. Thanks.

sharon on 3/22/2009
see sample of using that key

Harvey Schwartz on 3/23/2009
I am interested in encryption in SQL Server and this looks like a first step. Will there be more installments to explain the use of the key to encrypt and decrypt data? How are asymmetrical keys different form/better than other types of keys?

John Magnabosco on 3/23/2009
Please see my blog entry regarding lost/forgotten passwords: http://www.simple-talk.com/community/blogs/johnm/archive/2009/03/23/72588.aspx

John Magnabosco on 3/23/2009
@Harvey Yes, there will be more installments to explain the deeper aspects of encryption keys.

luther smith on 3/25/2009
Clear information and good pacing for its presentation.

You should specify what asymmteric key is and what the difference between symmetric and asymetric is.

yashpal on 8/16/2011
good video!!!!!!!!

Prem on 8/16/2011
Why are asymmetric keys used? Would be good to cover that too.

Justin Bennett on 8/16/2011
Excellent & simple. Now I'd like to see how to use this to encrypt/decrypt data at rest, and potentially to secure SSL connections for SSMS to secure credentials & data in transit.

Charlie Bruno on 8/16/2011
Very good presentation.

Rohan on 8/16/2011
Great video

John Miceli on 8/16/2011
so now what? How do I use this to safeguard my data?

What does an asymetric key do?

Mark Jones on 8/16/2011
How do you use an asymmetric key?

Manish Sharma on 8/17/2011
Surely its related to security... but I did get where and how we can use it?

Some pointers to what the various options on the command would have been nice.

Joe Calabrese on 8/17/2011
This video would be more useful if it explained what an asymetric key is, and where/how to use it.

De Herdt jozef on 8/17/2011
You never explaned Why we need an asymetric key

Vamsi on 8/21/2011
good

Audrey Michiels on 8/28/2011
It'll be interesting to add an exemple on how to use an asymetric key. From the video, I know how to create one, but I don't know what to do with it.

4F3BA8CA71 on 8/30/2011
Nice introduction. It would have been better to show an example of using the key once created.

Maurice Ivory on 1/13/2012
This was done quite well, I got alot out of this video
