Ranking Functions - Part 1

In this video Marco introduces all 4 ranking functions available in SQL Server. This is the 1st part, wich he shows how to use ROW_NUMBER. It might look simple, but ROW_NUMBER was a significant addition to TSQL, enabling us to cleanly assign numbers to rows when needed.

Hard to see the syntax..

Dan on 6/3/2010
Good, but the accent was tough! I appreciate the info though!

Ron Saxer on 6/3/2010
hard to understand voice

C Boos on 6/3/2010
The delivery was a little quick and could have used a more explanation of the syntax

Paul McCurdy on 6/3/2010
Initially was hard to read, but later was just fine.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. After I uploaded 1st part, I've changed into 1024x768 as suggested in upload page. So, I'm sure the last 3 parts are in better quality.

steve on 6/3/2010
Speaker's accent made it difficult to understand.

David on 6/3/2010
Nice video. Thanks

Robert Johnson on 6/3/2010
Video was blurry, and even though I put it at full screen, I could not clearly see the screen.

Wayne Motley on 6/3/2010
Very good illustration of row number.

Sudha on 6/3/2010
Video quality is poor.

Mark Holahan on 6/3/2010
Nice overview, thank you. Constructive criticism: specifically, try to speak more slowly; generally, it's a challenge to read most of the SQLShare presentations because the instructors' screen's so small.

gal on 6/3/2010
great one!

The content is valuable, but the quality of the sound in the video is horrible!

hari on 6/3/2010
this video has excellent example to show the rank_number.

Real

Daniel McGivney on 6/4/2010
It would be great to have the scripts and sample data to run scripts against.

Robert McEuen on 6/4/2010
Subject matter was good but the presentation was difficult to understand because an explantaion of what each of the functions was not offered as he was making the practical demonstration. He was also very hard to hear.

R Michael Lacy on 6/4/2010
It would be nice if you'd attach your demo scripts.

Joe on 6/4/2010
Enlarge the Font size you used in the demonstration.

Eli Velez on 6/4/2010
Difficulties understanding, plus not sure what was to be accomplished.

Hi again. R Michael and Daniel, take a look at http://www.bidn.com/blogs/marcoadf/bidn-blog/379/ranking-functions-row_number-vs-rank-vs-dense_rank-vs-ntile

Robert Esteves on 6/4/2010
Please increase the zoom. Scripts are very hard to see.

Allen Leroy on 6/4/2010
To fast and size and clarity of video could be better

Margaret Norkett on 6/4/2010
The code itself was a bit hard to see.

Gary on 6/4/2010
Would be nice to have sample data and script to work with

Tonci on 6/4/2010
great!

Matt on 6/7/2010
Ok video, he covered the basics of row_number well, but the screen size and accent do make it more challenging to follow.

Kenneth Wymore on 6/7/2010
good information but screen was too small and accent did make Marco hard to understand at times.

Dean Dodson on 6/8/2010
Hard to see some of the text.

Sorry - but I could barely understand his accent, so it was hard to understand what he was saying

Les Weaving on 6/18/2010
Could not see display screen & found presenter difficult to understand, so while content MAY have been informative and worthwile, it was a waste of time for me.

Great part 1 ... looking forward for the rest... the accent is just fine! I am grateful that you chose to speak English and that I didn't have to translate :)
